regular sporting activity, essential to reduce the risk of cardiovascular

Written by admin on 12:34 AM

The food is not only involved in cholesterol. The hereditary factors and lifestyle are also at stake. So there are rules of common sense, to adopt emergency stop as tobacco, which encourages the formation of plaques in the coronary arteries.
Use a regular sporting activity is also essential to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. In everyday life, there is no need to run the marathon! Suffice it to adopt good habits daily: Take the stairs instead of elevators, walking a good step at least half an hour a day, doing a little bike, go to the pool A… you!

A healthier diet to reduce high cholestrol

About three-quarters of cholesterol are produced by the body, and more particularly by the liver. The rest comes from food, including products of animal origin. It is therefore important to be careful what you eat, but not only.
First rule: choose its fat. In fact, saturated fats are the main responsible of excess LDL. They are present in cheese, meat fat (entrecôtes, pork chops…) and meats. We must therefore focus on what is called fatty acids "essential", ie mono-and poly unsaturated, which is found in fats of vegetable origin (margarine, olive oil, sunflower, rapeseed, corn…) but also fatty fish and nuts. They can lower cholesterol levels, while maintaining the level of HDL.
Have a varied diet is also a key to balance. In particular emphasis on fruits and vegetables, full of vitamin C and E, beta carotene, poly phenols, and carotenes, which have an antioxidant and protective role.
Today, many brands offer food "anti cholesterol", expected to bring down the rate: yogurts, margarines, oils… Their secret: the phytosterol, which prevents cholesterol moving into the blood. If they are a valuable aid, it is not totally rely on them, and omit all other principles!

two types of cholesterol

Written by admin on 12:27 AM

There are two types of cholesterol, according to "agents" who carry in their blood:
-- LDL (low density lipoprotein) are responsible for the bad cholesterol: they bring the liver to the blood. If there are too many, it settles on the arteries, clog gradually creating in the long run a risk of heart attack, aneurysm, stroke… You should know that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in France.
-- HDL (high density lipoprotein), they are responsible for removing these deposits, and bring them back to the liver. That is why it is called good cholesterol.
The ideal is therefore logical to have a level of good cholesterol high, and a rate of bad cholesterol low. Be careful reading the results of analysis: a high total rate is not necessarily bad, just like a low rate is not necessarily good news! Ask your doctor.

The change in the reimbursement of drugs against cholesterol

Written by admin on 12:24 AM

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most important causes of death in our country. A high cholesterol in the blood has always been considered a major risk factor.

Since the 90 years, we have medicines, called "hypolipemiants", effective in the fight against excess cholesterol in the blood.

To promote judicious use of these drugs very expensive, repayment thereof was subject to specific rules, with the need for prior authorization of the medical board. Thus, the use of anti cholesterol drugs was allowed only after verifying that a more balanced diet did not allow the patient to lower his cholesterol.

Until now, permission for access to hypolipemiants therefore was based solely on cholesterol. However, scientific work has highlighted the importance of many other factors. The age, family history, hereditary predisposition, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease are all risk factors.

That is why new criteria for reimbursement have been developed and entered into force on 1 December 2003.

All hypolepimiants (both original medicines that generic drugs) are still reimbursed through a prior agreement of the medical council of the mutual, but according to a simplified procedure proposed by the Christian Mutualité. The doctor will use a standardized form that allows it to easily certify the different elements that come into play to confirm that an anti cholesterol treatment is necessary (and no longer the only cholesterol). Accordingly, it is possible that the use of drugs anti cholesterols no longer justified for some patients, current scientific evidence has shown that they were wrongly placed in a category "at risk".

The situation of each patient should be reassessed, calmly, by his doctor, according to new criteria. However, to allow patients and doctors time that the revaluation is made, the Mutualité Christian has been approved in principle that for the treatments currently underway, permits issued before 1 December 2003 will retain their validity until the date End of the period mentioned on the authorization

The Mutualité Christian failed to get at this time a decrease in the price of anti cholesterol drugs, but the Minister assured that this will happen in a second time, following our proposal to combine a large decrease in price with the deletion of prior recourse to the medical board. By the Mutualité against Christian is satisfied that the terms of repayment be made in accordance with the latest scientific knowledge.

About fatty acids

There are complex lipids (such as lecithins used in industry as an emulsifier) and lipids simple, consisting mainly of triglycerides, the vast proportion of fat reserves stored in the body. They themselves are built on the basis of molecules of fatty acids. They generally three types:

• saturated fatty acids that are found in animal fats (except fish), in pastries and hydrogenated oils used in the manufacture of ordinary margarines.

• fatty acids mono-unsaturated: They are found in animal and plant kingdoms, especially in olive oil and peanut.

• The polyunsaturated fatty acids: omega-6, contained in most vegetable oils and omega-3 contained in fatty fish, canola oil, safflower….

acquire or take a better food hygiene to control cholesterol

In the case of cholesterol, it must first acquire or take a better food hygiene. And tame cholesterol does not mean make a cross on dietary diversity. The first rule is: "Eat good and healthy!"

• Eat fat meat in moderation, fine meats, fatty cheese, cream, butter, margarine traditional, chocolate, biscuits.

• Replace fatty meat with lean meat: poultry, rabbit, veal. Do not forget: saturated fatty acids contained in animal fats increase cholesterol.

• Eat fish twice a week at minimum.

• Consume with moderation, the cholesterol-rich foods such as liver, eggs, butter.

• Opt for the bread, potatoes shirt.

• Eat enough fruits and vegetables.

• Do not add salt to your meals: our diet contains sufficient.

• Prefer mono-unsaturated acids in olive oil and peanut that lower cholesterol overall acting mainly on the "bad cholesterol", rather than saturated fatty acids butter.

The second rule is "Eat less." Fight time your excess weight through a diet. Do you help if necessary by a dietitian.

Also note that certain foods act favorably on cholesterol. This is the case of dietary fiber and soy protein. Even better, there is food to impoverished cholesterol. It was especially developed margarine and other foods containing phytosterols, which would have a cholesterol-lowering effect (to reduce excess cholesterol). Talk to your doctor or your dietitian you specify whether this type of product is useful in your case.

The third rule is: "Live healthy." Make sport! Exercise counteracts hypertension and cholesterol. Try not to smoke and drink alcohol in moderation.

Finally, a drug treatment is sometimes prescribed by the doctor. These are preventive medication it is important to follow. Indeed, if you do not take your medication regularly, your cholesterol is evidently no chance of decline. Anyway, the drug is not a panacea. It will serve little if not accompanied by a complete change your lifestyle. But lower cholesterol levels and thus avoid the occurrence of cardiovascular disease is it does not bother!

Too much cholesterol? Don't worry...

A simple blood taken can measure your cholesterol. Talk to your doctor. This will require that we measure the overall rate but also the relationship between LDL and HDL which we have seen the importance, since the "good" cholesterol acts on the "bad".

It is important to make this check:

• you have any risk factors mentioned above (sédentarisme, obesity, hypertension…)

• you had a heart attack or other coronary artery disease,

• close if members of your family have made heart disease before age 60.

For cholesterol, the values considered normal vary according to the authors and countries. There is no real value threshold below which one could say with certainty that the risk of cardiovascular disease is zero. A recommendation would be best not to exceed 200 milligrams per 100 ml. In Belgium, the average is 232mg/ml.

cholesterol is not harmful to health

Written by admin on 12:16 AM

The fat and cholesterol-whose fate is bound-are neither soluble in water or in the blood. To be able to "travel" in the body, they must be "conveyed" for transportation, they bind to certain proteins called lipoproteins. Depending on the type of protein which it is connected, there are two types of cholesterol:

• LDL-cholesterol, linked to low density lipoprotein,
• HDL-cholesterol, linked to high-density lipoprotein.

But the transport of these two types of cholesterol leads to certain consequences. The LDL has the distinction of being deposited on the walls of blood vessels, causing calcification of the arteries (the so-called atherosclerosis), then narrowing and hardening. Consequences? The blood flows easily and bodies are poorly oxygenated. It is therefore essential that the level of LDL is low because too much is never without danger. The calcification may occur in the legs: it results in significant pain when walking. If this is the heart that is poorly drained, angina pectoris and pain in the chest after exercise may occur. Note that can completely clog arteries. In this case, the tissue that lies just beyond the cap is any more oxygen and dies. This is known as infarction. This can occur at the heart (myocardial infarction) or brain (cerebral infarction).

HDL, against, the property to remove the LDL of the vessel walls and lead to the liver which can then reuse. It plays a role self. It also speaks in the language of "good cholesterol" because most rate, the higher the risk of coronary diseases is low.

So, in itself, cholesterol is not harmful to health. It is excess LDL that night… and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. But it is the association of cholesterol to other risk factors for cardiovascular disease is a real danger. Among these factors are smoking, alcohol, lack of exercise, obesity…, all elements related to our lifestyles, but also diabetes or hypertension…, and finally factors age, sex or heredity.

Cholesterol is fatty substance essential for the proper body function

Written by admin on 12:14 AM

Cholesterol is neither a virus nor a bacterium. This is not a disease, quite the contrary. It is a fatty substance essential for the proper functioning of our body. Cholesterol plays an important role in building cell walls. It is also the raw material used for the production of certain hormones and bile acids (acids stored in the gallbladder) that allow the absorption of fat or fat.

In fact, cholesterol metabolism, all chemical transformations related to its absorption by the body, is closely linked to that of lipids, or fats. In our body, cholesterol is synthesized in the liver at the start of dietary fats rich in saturated fatty acids. In essence, it is therefore our body which produces, in a balanced and sufficient, the cholesterol we need. Nevertheless, this balance can be disrupted and the body generate too much cholesterol. What may be the cause? Diseases such as diabetes or, more simply, a diet too rich in fat, saturated fat. It seems obvious that the more you absorb fat, the more you ingérez "raw material" used to produce cholesterol, so your body produces more cholesterol.

high cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease

Written by admin on 12:13 AM

In Belgium, 40% of adults have cholesterol levels too high in the blood. However, high cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. When combined with other factors, the danger that occur infarction or angina pectoris is important. So it is better to act without delay: take charge of a cholesterol, is a decisive step in preventing cardiovascular disease.
